CPT Start Date and Eligibility for Graduate Students
Graduate students (both Initial I-20 and Transfer I-20) can start CPT from the first day of program (Day-1 CPT).
Internship Course and CPT Application Process
To apply for CPT, Westcliff University requires students to enroll in a 1-credit internship course ($855) every semester.
CPT Coverage and Renewal Process
CPT can cover one semester. If students renew CPT on time, they can use CPT to work for one semester with no interruptions.
Mandatory Attendance for Onsite Courses
Students need to attend onsite classes as required to maintain Full-time F1 status.
GPA Requirements to Maintain Full-time F1 Status
With a GPA between 2.5 and 3, only part-time CPT (Curricular Practical Training) can be applied for. If the GPA is below 2.5, the CPT authorization will be revoked.

- Only one of these courses requires in-person attendance for a single class session. Currently, Westcliff University uses Engage Week instead of regular in-person meetings. Students will have one week per semester designated as Engage Week, during which they are required to attend classes on campus. Specific dates for on-campus attendance will be provided at the beginning of each semester.
- Online courses are in the form of pre-recorded lectures, and students are only required to complete assignments and exams on time.
- Each semester is divided into two terms, with one course offered per term. Only one of the courses will require on-campus attendance.
- On-campus classes will be scheduled on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays from 9 am to 5 pm. Students are not allowed to leave early.

If you haven't secured an employer at the beginning of the program, you can prepare to apply for CPT (Curricular Practical Training) while continuing to search for an employer. Please note that there should be an 8-week gap between each CPT application, so it's advisable to plan ahead and allocate enough time for the next application. Additionally, during the academic term, there is no gap between CPT authorizations, and students can use CPT to work throughout the year (365 days). However, not having a job will not affect your admission or academic status.
